About the Chapter
Alpha Tau Chapter was chartered at the University of Akron on May 9, 1925. The chapter was established by Brothers, Norman L. McGhee, S. Paul Berry, Elmer J. Cheeks, and Emmer Martin Lancaster. The charter members were Brothers John Wesley Dunbar, Arte Fleming, Joseph Johnson, Charles R. Lewis, Phillip Morris, Addison Spencer, Chester A. Tisdale, Dan Thomas, Robert E. Black and J.B. Walker. These men embodied ideals of scholarship, leadership, and service towards the upliftment of the community, principles that became the bedrock upon which the Alpha Tau Chapter was established. The objectives are to stimulate the ambition of its members and to prepare them for the greatest usefulness in the causes of humanity, freedom, dignity ofthe individual, encourage the highest and noblest form of manhood, to aid downtrodden humanity in its efforts to achieve higher social, economic and intellectual status.
