About the Chapter
Gamma Theta Chapter of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity Inc. was chartered at the University of Dayton on May 3, 1947. The brothers responsible for the birth of the chapter were Alvin Bridges, Leonard Cobbs, Will Griffin, George Hicks, Charles Jones, Paul Revere, and Sanders Stone. The chapter’s resilience during the next two decades would be evident and proved to stimulate a much stronger presence in the mid-1960s as it expanded to Wright State University and returned to the campus of the University of Dayton during the late 1970s and 1980s. Gamma Theta solidified its position as one of the most active organizations at the university. In the 1990’s, Gamma Theta Chapter continued to flourish and remained a key organization on the Dayton campus. Today, the chapter celebrates its lineage and has an active role in providing community service on campus and in the Dayton community.
