Beta Xi Lambda
About the Chapter
At the beginning of the fall term of the year 1926, several young men who were interested in Alpha Phi Alpha came together as students at the University of Nebraska. On December 6, 1926, an organized meeting occurred at 1970 ‘U’ Street in Lincoln, Nebraska. Beta Beta Chapter was chartered on May 7, 1927. Beta Xi Lambda Chapter was chartered on May 20, 1939. Beta Beta and Beta Xi Lambda collaborated on an annual food drive called “Kicking the Can” throughout the 1980s and 1990s. This initiative involved partnerships with University of Nebraska Football, Omaha and Lincoln Food Banks, and Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc. Notably, Beta Beta and Beta Xi Lambda were the first in the Midwestern Region to dedicate a literacy bench. This dedication took place at Druid Hill Elementary School during the 2014 Midwestern Regional Convention in Omaha, Nebraska. The literacy bench program continues to thrive.
