Gamma Xi Lambda

Gamma Xi Lambda, the 179th House of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc., in Minneapolis and St. Paul, Minnesota, has a distinguished history dating back to its chartering on April 12, 1946. This founding coincided with the 1912 charter date of Mu Chapter at the University of Minnesota, and was spearheaded by Attorney Raymond W. Cannon, a past general president of the fraternity and a Mu Chapter charter member, along with Jasper Gibbs Jr. and John H. Hickman. The chapter’s initial members were locally initiated graduate brothers, with John M. Patton serving as the first president. Its mission was to serve graduate Alpha Phi Alpha members throughout Minnesota. Gamma Xi Lambda’s commitment to community upliftment is exemplified by community service initiatives, including voter registration drives, educational programs, and partnerships for Project Alpha. Their legacy reflects the fraternity’s ideals of brotherhood, scholarship, and service.
