Delta Upsilon

The Delta Upsilon Chapter of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity Incorporated was established on Monday, March 9, 1953, at Miami University in Oxford, Ohio, by nine distinguished founders: Charles Clay, Charles Lewis, Charles Graham, Donald Hunter, Julian Hunter, Thomas Jones, Leroy Peterson, Mervin Stinson, and Colonel William Hargraves II. Brother Hargraves petitioned the National Organization for the chapter’s charter at the 1952 General Convention in Cleveland, Ohio. This group became the first Black organization on the campus of Miami University (OH), preceding all other fraternities, sororities, and Black organizations by two decades.

Throughout its history, the chapter has developed innovative approaches to community service and fundraising to advance its programs, notably hosting an All-Ohio Alpha Basketball Tournament, Martin Luther King Day celebrations, and Annual Black and Gold Extravaganza.
