Theta Mu Lambda

About the Chapter

In 1963 a group of prominent men in Joliet who were members of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc.  and connected by the bonds of brotherhood decided to petition the National office to form an alumni Chapter. This request was granted on December 12, 1963, and they were given the next designation for alumni brothers, Theta Mu Lambda (288). There were serious problems facing the African American community in Joliet. There were housing discrimination and other injustices.

These brothers helped the community in many ways while they were there. By the early 1970s most of the brothers had relocated elsewhere because of their professions. Thus, the chapter went inactive. Eighteen years after this some brothers suggested that the chapter be reactivated. The brothers have been working diligently ever since. Theta Mu Lambda has consistently been lifting high the light of Alpha.
