Eta Xi

Alpha Phi Alpha always rejoices at growth within the fraternity. On February 20, 1971, the University of Detroit witnessed growth—the founding of Eta Xi Chapter.

During the early 1970’s, the chapter strived to live up to the goals and principles of scholarship, leadership, brotherhood, and love for all mankind. In addition to providing social events for the community and student body, the chapter was a conglomerate of different personalities and life styles, with brothers birthed in New York, Texas, Puerto Rico, Illinois, D.C. and, of course, Detroit. After a mere four years of existence, they were recognized as Midwestern Region Chapter of the Year. The chapter remained active throughout the 1970’s and 1980’s, but unfortunately became inactive in 1988.

Through The Legacy of Eta Xi Foundation, alumni of the chapter continue to meet, travel and serve the Detroit community. In 2021, the chapter celebrated their 50th anniversary. Detroit Mercy President Brother Dr. Antoine M. Garibaldi spoke at the event.
