Eta Tau

Illinois State University

About the Chapter

Eta Tau was chartered on October 9, 1971, on the campus of Illinois State University by Walter Richmond Graves and co-founded by Donald Holmes, Earl Johnson, Jethro Knazze, John “Apple” Lane, and Ted McClain. Since its chartering, Eta Tau has upheld the high standards of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc. through a multitude of service and national program events that have positively impacted both the campus and the community. The chapter has remained committed to inducting new members to develop leaders, promote brotherhood, and encourage academic excellence on campus.

Eta Tau has a rich history, including the creation of the phrase “Ice Cold,” a term now used by Alpha men around the world. This contribution reflects the lasting cultural influence of Eta Tau. Moreover, Eta Tau has been successful in building a campus community by fostering meaningful relationships, building strong partnerships with student organizations, and maintaining a visible presence rooted in service and leadership.
