Iota Epsilon
Grand Valley State University
About the Chapter
Iota Epsilon was chartered on December 4, 1974, on the campus of Grand Valley State University in Allendale, Michigan, and later re-chartered in 1980. The Iota Epsilon Chapter was founded on our dear fraternity principles: Manly Deeds, Scholarship and Love for All Mankind. The founders of the chapter were Brothers Lavon Cole, Paul Harvey, Abe Hill, Marvin Hill Jr., Vance Holland, Michael Murphy, and Jesse Owens.
The Chapter wouldn’t exist without the help of the brothers of the Zeta Beta Chapter at Ferris State College. The Iota Epsilon Chapter was the first Black Greek-Letter Fraternity at Grand Valley State University. Men who come through the Iota Epsilon Chapter have gone on to attain master’s and doctorate degrees, become doctors, lawyers, hold executive positions in Fortune 200 companies, and have had roles in movies such as “Remember the Titans.” Iota Epsilon has epitomized the true spirit of fraternity, brotherhood, leadership, and service to both GVSU and the Grand Rapids community.
