Zeta Delta

The Zeta Delta chapter originated in the Upper Peninsula of Michigan, at Northern Michigan University in Marquette, MI. In 1965, six Black men were interested in pursuing Alpha, but there were only 29 Black students on campus at the time, and they could not meet the required numbers to organize the fraternity.

In the closing months of 1966, eight men took the sixhour drive to Michigan State University for initiation, and on January 7, 1967, the Zeta Delta chapter of Alpha Phi Alpha was chartered. However, the chapter could not sustain itself due to the low number of Black students. Zeta Delta went dormant and remained so for years.

On December 12, 1998, the chapter was relocated to Michigan State University with the initiation of seven men. The Zeta Delta chapter remained committed to excellence, service, and advocacy in the East Lansing area, as well as to scholarship: the chapter boasted a 95 percent graduation rate.
