Alpha Alpha

The planting of fraternal seeds on the University of Cincinnati’s campus occurred with the arrival of two graduate students from Howard University’s Beta Chapter. Brother Dr. Reginald E. Beamon and Brother Morris S. Walton arrived at the University of Cincinnati between the fall of 1918 and the spring of 1919. While on campus they met and befriended the students that would become the charter members. During the 12th General Convention in Chicago, Illinois December 23-31, 1919 it was decided that chapters after Psi would receive the suffix “Alpha”. Alpha Alpha Chapter or Double A as it is affectionately referred to was organized on December 20, 1920. Double A Chapter was one of the first African American student organizations on campus, as well the first historically Black fraternity on campus. Over the years they won prestigious national honors such as the McGhee Cup and Balfour Cup.
