Alpha Mu

Alpha Mu was officially founded on October 21, 1922, at Northwestern University by Brothers Charles Greer and Homer P. Cooper of Theta Chapter in Chicago. Though small in number, the chapter survived the challenging times and became a vital component of the lives of its members, stressing integrity, character and scholarship. Throughout the early years of the chapter, Brothers and Black students in general endured numerous racial issues at Northwestern. This caused the chapter to go dormant for a period until the late 1960s. It was in this setting that Zeta Xi Lambda Alumni Chapter in Evanston sought to reactivate the Alpha Mu Chapter at Northwestern. In honor of the late Brother Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., Alpha Mu has hosted a Candlelight Vigil for the past 45 years. The event takes place on Northwestern’s campus to commemorate the life, legacy, and impact of Brother King.
