About the Chapter
The Delta Chi Lambda Chapter of Alpha Phi Alpha was founded on February 19, 1949. In the 1950’s and 1960’s, Delta Chi Lambda enjoyed a high influx of members as part of the Great Migration of African Americans from the rural South to Milwaukee. Some of the highlights of this era include the establishment of the first Alpha scholarship, the first spring formal, and a visit from Rev. Bro. Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.
The charter members of Delta Chi Lambda were Brother Dr. Fred Bobo, Brother Dr. Peter Murrell, Brother Stanley Herbert, Brother Dr. Vincent Bevenue, Brother William (Billy) Ford, Brother George Brawley, Brother Dr. James Carter, Brother Roy Wilson, Brother Emil O’Bee, Brother Dr. Vernon Moore and Brother Wilbert Thomas.
The Annual Young Gentleman’s Scholarship Beautillion has awarded over $300,000 in scholarships to young Black men in Milwaukee.
