About the Chapter
Delta Chapter was the first chapter to be chartered outside of the United States and the first chapter to be chartered in what would become the Midwest Region.
During a trip to Toronto in 1908, Jewel Eugene Kinckle Jones met eight men from the University of Toronto and other schools in the vicinity whom we felt would be good candidates for membership into the fraternity. Delta Chapter was created during Cornell Easter Break of 1908 (March 27 – April 5, 1908). The only two recorded initiates of this chapter were Robert Macnasseh Mahlangeni and Keith Myrie Benoit Simon. The names of the other six members are unknown, as Delta Chapter did not maintain its active existence.
The chapter survived for a number of years until it was moved to Huston-Tillotson College in Austin, Texas in 1938.
