About the Chapter

Phi Chapter is the 20th House of Alpha, chartered Saturday, May 17, 1919 at Ohio University in Athens, Ohio. Xi Chapter and its members were given the task of initiating the men from Ohio University into the fraternity, which established the first African American student organization and fraternity on the university’s campus.

Over the history of the chapter, Phi has developed leaders on campus through advocacy, brotherhood, diverse programing, community service and member recruitment. The current Brothers of Phi Chapter continue the pursuit of excellence by continuing to live up to the Aims and Motto of the Fraternity. Phi Chapter was recognized as Ohio District Chapter of the Year in both 2017 and 2018 and was named 2019’s Fraternity of the Year by Ohio University’s Office of Sorority and Fraternity Life.
