Tau Kappa

The Tau Kappa Chapter was chartered on August 19, 2000, at Oakland University. The charter line were Brothers: Doron Elliot, Anthony Jones, Rick Williams Sr., Eddie Dewalt, Rodgers Washington, Tamarcus Southward, Arden Bolden Jr., Jeremy Williams, and Timothy Twiley Sr., under the direction of Eric Waters and Nigel Nanton.

The chapter has become a leading force for scholarship, service, and cultural engagement at Oakland University. The chapter quickly made its mark by hosting the 2002 Alpha Phi Alpha Midwest Regional Conference and excelling in fraternal competition, including winning step shows and advancing a Miss Black & Gold representative to the district and regional levels.

“TK” is known for high-impact programming such as Guilty by Association, a community forum on minority relations and law enforcement; the large-scale Rec Lock-In; and signature events like Queen’s Appreciation. The chapter also brought major speakers—including the world-renowned motivational speaker Eric Thomas—drawing over 1,000 attendees. We also have partnered with organizations like ABS, NSBE, The Ascend Foundation, and CMI on student enrichment and professional development events.
